Snapchat is continuing to push itself into the world of e-commerce by enabling its users to shop on the platform. Users can now purchase products sold by 5 key influencers directly on the Snapchat app. The influencers in question are:

  • Bhad Bhabie
  • Kylie Jenner
  • Shay Mitchell
  • Spencer Pratt
  • Kim Kardashian West

All of the above influencers have now added a ‘Shop’ button to their profile. This button allows users to buy products from their brands.

Powered by Shopify, the feature uses the same technology that was used to sell tickets to live events that involved Kylie Jenner.

At the time of writing, the influencers will keep all of the money that they make on their sales. The sellers will not receive any customer data unless someone makes a purchase.

The Inspiration Behind ShapChat’s Move

Snapchat’s latest news follows Instagram’s roll-out of their ‘Checkout’ feature. Available to 50 creators and 5 publishers, Instagram seems to have inspired Snapchat’s move. It also seems clear that Snapchat’s move ensured that some of the most influential people concentrate their efforts on Snapchat and Shopify. This gives the platform a chance to monetise even further.

Snapchat’s latest move also allows influencers to re-target those users who have not purchased anything during their initial visit. While Shopify seems to be ‘Winning’ as the e-commerce partner of choice for Snapchat for now, things may change in the future. This is because Snapchat may well attempt to replicate the checkout options themselves in-house and wave goodbye to Shopify.

Expanding its Advertising

Snapchat also has the opportunity to expand its e-commerce advertising. This means that the social media platform can get direct sales from an advertisement. However, it’s current power is found in its augmented reality (AR) technology. Therefore, it would make a lot of sense if Snapchat offered this option to its users. Combining AR with a native checkout has the ability to improve their marketing options.

The Best Ways to Create Content

Using well-known influencers is now one of the best ways to create content that resonates with different users. When you couple the influencers and brands with a direct checkout option, it can make selling the products so much easier. Snapchat now has the power to achieve a competitive edge regardless of how well the new ‘Shop’ button performs.
